Our friend and colleague, YNCS Evereste “Ev” Black, USCG (Retired), passed away Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at 1700.

Ev was a plank owner of the Coast Guard Retiree Council Northwest, its secretary, and member of the Council Executive Committee.  In addition to his Coast Guard career, he was a recipient of the Swivel Shot Award for his huge volunteer contributions.  To his last day, he never stopped caring for and trying to help other Coast Guard people.

Ev was both well-liked and admired by those he helped and came in contact with during his service in both the Navy and Coast Guard. He loved his job at Pier 36, helping those he met each and every day.

Ev was a plank owner in the USCG Chief Petty Officers Association, joining in 1968.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.

A memorial service will be held in the gym at USCG Base Seattle (Pier 36) on Nov. 13 at 1 PM.  A reception in the gym, including light refreshments, will follow.
